Rissa Andres, ATC/L, graduated from high school in Pingree, North Dakota. In 1987, she was offered a scholarship to play Division II basketball at Rollins College, in Winter Park, Florida. After obtaining a bachelor's degree in English, Rissa became interested in athletic training. She enrolled at the University of Florida in 1994 to pursue a career in sports medicine. While in Gainesville, Rissa covered high school football and served as the athletic trainer for women's sports at Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville, Florida.
She later returned to Rollins College, where she served as assistant athletic trainer and traveled with both the men's and women's soccer, basketball, baseball and softball teams. She also assisted with the other 19 intercollegiate sports. During this time, Rissa was certified as an athletic trainer and licensed in 1996. While working at Rollins, she spent her mornings volunteering with Health South. It was here that she met the head athletic trainer for the Orlando Predators (Arena Football), who asked Rissa to assist with the team for two seasons.
Rissa was then hired by Florida Hospital and served as Sports Medicine Outreach Coordinator. There, she was responsible for athletic training coverage and sports medicine education for three high schools, one community college, Disney, and other outreach events such as the Gridiron Classic, Hoop It Up, NHL Breakout, Gus Macker Basketball Tournament, AAU Jr. Nationals, WNBA Veteran's Camp, and the Orlando Magic Basketball Camps. She was also the medical supply coordinator for the Disney Marathon for three years.
Rissa moved to Sevierville, in August 2001 to work for the Fort Sanders Sevier Sports Medicine team and serve as the head athletic trainer at Sevier County High School. She thoroughly enjoys her new position and is anxious to begin a student athletic training program at Sevier County High School to educate students who are interested in pursuing careers in athletic training.
